The Big C…and it’s NOT Cancer

Many of you are probably familiar with one of Showtime’s latest hit series called ‘The Big C’ and know that it’s a drama about cancer. Although cancer has been the leading cause of death in America since it surpassed heart -disease back in 2005, I would like to take the drama, if you will, away from cancer and call attention to what’s really fueling cancer…The Big C. Dr. Tullio Simoncini takes us inside a person with cancer and describes step by step why cancer is nothing more than a fungus…a.k.a. Candida…The Big C.

So, what exactly is Candida and why are so many American’s laden with it? First of all, humans naturally have thousands of friendly bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract which have numerous health benefits, one of which is to help us to fight off disease. However, these friendly bacteria can often be taken over by bad bacteria such as yeast or Candida and when this happens the body is susceptible to disease. Now, for all you men out there who may think that this can’t affect you…think again. Yeast overgrowth does not necessarily manifest itself as a yeast infection, however for women this is a good indication that there is a problem with Candida.

Here is a list of common symptoms of Candida

  • abdominal gas and bloating
  • headaches
  • migraines
  • excessive fatigue
  • cravings for alcohol
  • anxiety
  • vaginitis
  • rectal itching

One of the biggest misconceptions is that yeast feeds yeast. Not True! Sugar feeds yeast. Now, of course when you eat white bread and white rice this breaks down into sugar. If you are worried that you may have Candida, try an elimination diet for 21 days. Make sure to rid your diet of all white flour, white rice, natural sugars (this includes honey, maple syrup, blackstrap molasses, sweet fruits etc…) and of course any sweets like candy bars, pastries, cookies and the like. See if any of the symptoms listed above disappear and then re-introduce sugar back into your diet. If your symptoms return, you can be certain that Candida is in your body.

Candida THRIVES on sugar, so if you have a sweet tooth chances are you have high levels of Candida in your blood. To be sure, you can ask for a blood test that specifically reads levels of Candida in your blood.

I want you to imagine just one day of your life without sugar. Not too bad right? Now, I want you to imagine just one day without your best friend. Too painful for many to even think of I’m sure. I lost my best friend of 22 years to cancer over two years ago now. Heather was one of the sweetest people I’ve ever known and although there is nothing that will bring her back, I need to make a change. I hope that you will take a stand with me and say NO to ANY form of sugar just for today. It's time to stop Candida from taking over our lives.
